The Adventure that Is Life

At harvest time, my mind inevitably turns to ‘cycles.’ Life is full of cycles, and harvest is the closing of one of them. The harvest cycle begins with an intention, the intention to grow a crop, and it ends with the actual harvest. In between there was soil preparation, seeding, watering, weeding, etc. Seeing the cycle through to completion took work and a lot of patience and simply ‘allowing.’
We grow up with the conventional thinking that we will become adults and our parents will grow old and die before we do. Furthermore, our children will grow up to be adults and we will predecease them in old age. Fortunately for most, the flow of life and death follows that pattern. But for some, the sequence and timing get messed up and it takes an emotional and behavioral toll.
There comes a time in life when we all begin to realize that we are not immortal. However, some people seem to live longer. Is there a key to longevity?
Some people seem to succeed at whatever they put their minds to, almost as if they attract success. They are positive and happy; they seem just to play at what they do. At the other extreme, you find pessimistic and negative people. Life for negative people is a serious business, often filled with struggle and punctuated with failure. Where do you see yourself on the ladder of success?
